New here... (2)
Hello! I have smoked for about 28 years. If someone asked me what things I love the most (besides people) cigs would be number one. I have tried to quit more times than I can count. I tried the patch, inhaler, gum, prescription meds and the lozenge (couldnt keep it in my mouth it was so strong). In Nov 05 I tried cold turkey (only thing left!) and lasted 30 days, but started with just one "here and there" and by Jan 06 I was back up to my usual 1/2 pack a day. I thought the only way to really quit was cold turkey--felt terrible I couldnt do it--then I saw this Dr. (Dr. Drew?) on tv helping a man quit. He was hookin' him up with a patch and a lozenge and I am thinking--thats not going to work--he will still be addicted. Then he said "use what you need, we are talking about your LIFE here, stop smoking now, and nobody has died from nicotine gum. So, I got some gum (low dose) and use it whenever I feel the need to. Its been 6 weeks now---a really hard 6 weeks--my wonderful mother died 3 weeks ago (only 64 years old),quit smoking, killed by lung cancer--so you know what I mean by "really hard 6 weeks". I thought yesterday was going to be it--I was going to cave--but I found this site. I was amazed by the people here--so much compassion in one small space. Wow! Has anyone went on like this before? Sorry! Just wanted to let you know you stopped me yesterday--but everyday is a struggle, still.
